Strong emotional bonding with parents helps promote a child’s overall development. It helps kids develop positive social behaviors. The positive impact of parents in their children’s day to day life helps ensure that their kids can perform better socially and academically. This can be attributed to the kids Multiple Intelligence.

I think we live in an age where we are afraid to say no to our children and afraid to be honest. Parenting takes courage. Just Knowing what you feel is best for your child’s safety, development, health, stability, etc is not enough. Also sticking to it despite other’s opinions or trying to always please your child or be their friend is challenging.

Children need to be told what they can or cannot do, do chores, along with lots of love and affection to be able to develop and grow up to be a stable adult.

It’s ok to say no even if all their friends have it or are doing it. Talk to them. Share with them your reasons and they are sure to understand. If not, then explain to them in a loving way and be honest. Do not give into temptation of giving them a false or over inflated sense of self. Many a times over we have been guilty of promising them with something if they do or don’t do. And we forget the promise after a while.

Just to see a smile and happiness of our kids we have been guilty of praising our kids knowing well that it not true. Love for our kids and not wanting to hurt them make us give them false praises.

When it comes to raising children, parents have various parenting style. While it may look different there is a lot of common practices that parents use. Diane Baumrind did a research in the 1960 and created a Parenting Framework which put all the styles and strategies into 4 different categories. The four Baumrind parenting styles have distinct names and characteristics:
• Authoritarian or Disciplinarian
• Permissive or Indulgent
• Uninvolved
• Authoritative
While most of her study is US Centric. It can be used as a reference to be used in other geographies.

Her research covers 4 distinct areas Discipline Style, Communication, Nurturing, and Expectations

Almost all studies and research are about how parents should raise their kids.
These studies do not factor in the Learning style of the children. Most of the teaching practices revolve around how the child behaves and performs. In other words, all the development is based on behavioral aspect of the kids.

Recently there is a new way of looking at making the child future ready. It is Cognitive Learning Abilities. Every child is born with a talent which we know as Natural Talent.

We often have heard that a child Is a gifted. Had a Natural Talent.

It is called Cognitive Abilities or Learning Style. One can find out the dominant style. It is scientific and results are validated and standardized. Each Child has innate abilities and talent.

Dr. Howard Gardner | Hobbs Research Professor of Cognition & Education Harvard Graduate School of Education first mooted this idea and his research led him to standardize the natural talent in everyone which he called as Multiple Intelligence. He stated that every one has 8 Natural Talent and that some of them are more dominant than others.

The 8 Multiple Intelligence are as follows
– Linguistic
– Logical
– Musical
– Visual
– Kinesthetic
– Interpersonal
– Intrapersonal
– Naturalist

His research is increasingly being used by modern educators in planning and designing learning curriculum so that each child is taught as per their dominant talent.

A cognitive style refers to the way each one of us are hard-wired biologically to respond to different kinds of environmental stimuli. It is a Learning style that makes the students to use their brains more effectively.

Cognitive learning style describes an individual’s habits of processing environmental stimuli (information). Cognitive learning style simply indicates the tendencies of certain behaviors that occur during thinking and learning.
